The Colchester Causeway

The Colchester Causeway, also known as The Island Line Trail, is a gravel trail that extends out onto Lake Champlain and offers spectacular views of both the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains. The trail is perfect for gravel biking but can also be used as a walking and running trail. The causeway is roughly 14 miles out-and-back and is a relatively flat path with little to no elevation gain. The Colchester Causeway leads you all the way from Burlington to South Hero Island, which is lovely to explore in the warmer months. If driving there to bike, parking at the Airport Park and biking to the causeway from there is the best option. If you are looking for a longer and more challenging bike ride, you can ride the Bike Path from near campus or 194 and add a couple extra miles to your ride before intersecting with the causeway. Regardless of how you get there, you are guaranteed gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding mountains!
