The Burlington Wildways is a 5.6 mile network of trails that connects South Burlington to the Old and New North End. It connects several individual trail systems starting in Salmon Hole Park, which is part of the Winooski Valley Parks District, and then intersects with the Intervale Center, the 127 Bike Path, Ethan Allen Homestead, and the Burlington Bike Path. The trail types are a wide variety that includes dirt, gravel, pavement, and grassy trails. It is recommended that if you are biking the whole Wildway Trail that you use a gravel or mountain bike. The trail is identified by orange wildways trail blazers to ensure that you are not confused as you bike through the different parks and trails. A great starting point for this trail is the Calkins Trail at the Intervale Center, which rides along the Winooski River until you reach the Ethan Allen trail systems. The wildways is a fun way to get on mixed trails right near Champlain’s campus!
